Full of Grace

She was sitting on the bus, anxiety pulsing through her. She was texting, keeping to herself as her annoying classmates entered the bus and sat down without any consideration, swinging their bags around, screaming and laughing. She hated everyone on her bus, but didn't worry about it because she was focused on getting home. Eventually they left for her house since she was luckily the first bus stop. It felt like years before the bus doors finally opened, releasing her to the weekend that was awaiting her. But it wasn't the weekend itself that she was looking for, it was where she was going.
"Grace, are you okay?" Aaron asked as they walked home from the bus together.
"Yes, well no- no, yeah I'm good, I'm great." She stuttered out the response which made Aaron giggle. Grace smiled. She liked Aaron a lot. There was something about him that just made her want to look at him forever. He had brownish, black hair that he sort of spiked up into a "fohawk" she liked to call it. He had beautiful green eyes that popped every time he smiled. His smile was flawless, along with his strong stature.
"You seem happier than usual, what's up?" he asked her.
"Well I guess so, yeah. I guess I'm happier than usual. I mean I have every right to be, right? I mean, it's Friday and all, shouldn't we all be happy? Right?" She smiled, and laughed and decided to tell him what she was doing this weekend.
"Okay, well, I'm going prom dress shopping today with Tiff, I know it's nothing crazy fun, but I've never really done something like that before."
Grace had something to her that didn't come off as "beautiful" to most people. She was more of the conservative, geeky type. She always wore her hair in a ponytail, no makeup, her thick, plastic glasses, jeans and a t-shirt. She wasn't exactly popular but had plenty of friends. She said stupid things at the wrong time, never had a boyfriend, and ate like a pig. She always thought this was ironic because of her name. She was just the sort of girl who you got along with, but not really the type that you had a crush on, except in Aaron's eyes.
Aaron smiled.
"That sounds like fun to me. Do you wanna meet up with me and Dan... around 8? We can all get something to eat if you want."
Grace's heart jumped.
"Yeah, definitely. I'll let Tiff know. We're going around 7, so we''ll be plenty hungry by 8."
When they reached Aaron's house, Grace said goodbye and continued walking. She grabbed her phone out of her pocked and dialed Tiffany's number.
"Hey, bitch!"
Tiffany was... not like Grace, at all. She was way more open and entertaining. People loved being around Tiffany. She was super pretty and a lot of the guys liked her because she developed early. Her and Grace had been friends for years because their moms worked together. It was a mystery to Grace why Tiff had stayed friends with her for so long, they were nothing alike, but she loved her anyway.
"Hey, Tiffany. Are we still on for tonight?"
"Duh, bitch. I'm getting ready now. Make sure you shower! We can't leave your nasty stench in any of the dresses."
Grace smiled. She found Tiffany's sense of humor to be somewhat harsh, but always entertaining.
"Well, guess what, Tiff. I was talking to Aaron and I told him about tonight, and he told me he wants to meet up with us at the mall tonight! And he said he's going to be with Dan!"
"WHAT THE SHIT" Tiffany had a little cursing problem. "ARE YOU SERIOUS? Oh my GOD! I'll call you back in five minutes I have to go find my padded bra!" she hung up the phone.
Grace laughed as she reached her house, and walked inside.

She went to her somewhat empty closet of t-shirts and jeans and attempted to pick out something "nice". It was June so she grabbed a pair of shorts with her favorite t-shirt. She slid on a fresh pair of Hanes socks and her black Converse and went to the kitchen. Her phone began to ring, she knew it was Tiff so she picked up,
"Hey, bitch!" she said mocking Tiffany.
"Uh... hello, Gracey?"
It was Aaron.
Her face turning bright red with embarrassment, she said,
"Oh, god. Hey, Aaron. Sorry I thought you were Tiffany and--"
He interrupted her saying
"Ha, it's okay Grace. I just wanted to make sure we were still on for tonight."
"Yeah, yeah of course. I think we're gonna leave more 5 or 6ish, so do you wanna meet up sooner?"
"Okay yeah. We'll meet you in the food court around 6:30, sound good?"
"Yeah sounds great. I have to go now but I'll see you then, bye!"
She hung up the phone, still embarrassed and getting another call from who she hoped was Tiffany.
"Hello?" She answered cautiously.
"Hey, slut. Almost ready to go?" with a sigh of relief, Grace answered,
"I just called Aaron 'bitch'" Tiffany laughed and said
"What!? I don't think that's his name! Do you know anything about boys?"
"Well they're not exactly my bailiwick. Ugh, I thought he was you and it was so embarrassing. Whatever. Let's go. Come pick me up."

They got to the mall and went into the biggest store there. It was called "Prom Central" it had everything and anything one could ever need for prom. From dresses to bobby pins and everything in between. They went towards the dress section where Grace stopped with wide eyes. There was her perfect dress, the first one she laid eyes on, she knew it was hers.
"This is my dress." without even looking at the size she took it to the dressing room to try it on.
She came out and there she was, standing in what seemed to be made for her. It was a long, black dress that highlighted the slight curves of her skinny body. It was strapless with a diamond design that faded as it ran down the right side of her body. Tiffany was speechless. She looked perfect.

Aaron walked through the mall, uninterested in everything going on around him. His friend Dan and him were having a few laughs when all of a sudden Aaron stopped right in front of the prom store.
"What's wrong with you, man? Did you find your prom dress?" Dan said with a joking tone in his voice.
"Is that... is that... Gracey?"
Dan looked in through the glass windows of the store, finally seeing what Aaron was talking about.
"Holy... what the... wow. Is that her, man?"
Aaron didn't say anything but walked right into the store towards Tiff and Grace. While looking in the mirror on the dressing room door, she saw Aaron's reflection. Grace whipped around, surprised to see him there.
"Aaron... what are you doing here?"
Still not having anything to say, he just stared at her. Eventually choking up the words to answer.
"You look... perfect."
Grace blushed, and Tiffany winked at her, grabbing Dan's arm and walking away from the other two.
"Thank you. Uhm. Why are you here again?" Grace could barely stop herself from screaming with happiness.
"I saw you through the window and had to come in to see if it was really you. I couldn't believe how great you looked. Well, look. Yeah, look." Grace smiled.
"Well, let me just buy this one then. And then we can get some food." Aaron smiled.
"Okay. Well. What color tie do you want me to wear?"
Confused, Grace asked,
"For what?"
"For prom. I mean, we have to match if we're gonna go together. That is of course if you want to go with me"
Grace blushed again, grabbed Aaron's hand, and replied.
"A red one."
