Nameless

It was finally a nice day, not too hot, so I drove with the windows down instead of the air conditioning. I pulled in the McDonald's drive thru. "Hi, can I have a small fries and an iced coffee please?" "Sure, sir, drive around." "Thank you." I drove to the window, handed them my Debit Card, got my food, put the coffee in the cup holder, and drove away. I turned up the radio since my favorite song was playing. I felt great. It was a beautiful day and I could do absolutely anything I wanted to do. I drove out of the McDonald's parking lot, and into the street where I came to a stop light. A car pulled up next to me which seemed to have two girls goofing around in it. Since I was in the right lane of the street, I was closest to the girl in the passenger seat. She had her right hand out the window making air waves even though the car wasn't moving. I could tell I really liked this girl just by the look of her hand. She had small, long fingers with fingernails painted light pink. She was wearing a pretty ring with flowers on it, and was waving her hand around as I heard them singing along to the radio. By the way my car was positioned, I couldn't see the girl's face, and I was praying she'd peek her head out of the window. Right as the light turned green, she looked over. I was stunned. The person behind me must have beeped at me, because I know I didn't move when the light turned green. I was in shock. She was gorgeous. She had long, beachy blonde hair that blew in the wind. She had hazel brown eyes that stood out against her dark black eye lashes. She had slightly tanned skin which complimented her eyes even more. She looked at me with a slight smile that showed her straight white teeth and dark pink lips. Before I knew it, her friend drove away and she was gone. I realized the light was green and I was getting honked at, so I drove away. I forgot completely where I was going and what I was doing. All I could think of was that girl. Who was she, and did she go to my school? Why have I never seen her before?
I pulled into my driveway where my friend Mike was waiting for me on my porch. "Dude, where have you been? I've been waiting. Did you forget about the shore?" Then I remembered, my friend Mike, John and I were supposed to go down to Seaside that night. I was suddenly excited, yet I just couldn't get that girl out of my head. I didn't even know her name. "Wow, sorry, dude, I forgot. I stopped at McDonald's. Let me get my shit. Call John." I went into my bedroom and grabbed my pullstring bag. I changed my t-shirt and grabbed my Rayban sunglasses. I should probably tell you about myself, I'm Ryan. I'm a graduated senior from Sparta High School. I'm going to be attending Boston University in the Fall, so I've been spending about as much time as I can with my boys this summer. I've never had a real girlfriend. I mean... I've gone out with girls before, but it just didn't go anywhere. I might be "gay" for this, but I'm waiting for the right girl to really commit to. It's been hard living in the same town all of your life and never meeting anyone new; just being stuck with the same girls your whole life. I can't wait for college, meet new people. Maybe find a girl I was hoping for a summer fling type thing this summer just for something to do and remember in college. But so far, nothing. So... I hang out with my boys. I walk outside and John's puling into my driveway. He offered to drive tonight, but my car's a lot newer and safer than his is. So I'll be the one driving. It's only a two hour drive to get to the Jersey Shore from where we live, and we're gonna be spending the weekend there for a little vacation.
"Hey, buddy, you ready to go?" I asked John as he hopped out of his car, "yep, let's hit the road."
After two hours of driving, sleeping, stories, laughs, goofing around, and traffic, we arrived at the place we were staying. We booked a room just down the street from the boardwalk, so we didn't need to drive too much. We walked into our room which was luxurious. I called the one bedroom room, and made the other two sleep in the room with two beds. It didn't matter anyway, since we would be spending most of our times sneaking into clubs with our fake IDs and trying to find girls on the boardwalk. Maybe if one of us brought home a girl, they could use the single bedroom for the night. We'd have to wait and see.
We all got ready, and headed off to check out the boardwalk. There were lots of people there tonight since it was a Friday and it was summer. Girls left and right but none that really caught my eye. John, Mike and I went over to this restaurant on the boardwalk to grab something to eat since we were basically starving from the drive. I sat facing the boardwalk so I could people watch. I love doing that. Watching people. Seeing how people act and how some are different than others and what not. I chit chatted with my friends, but mostly paid attention to the passing by people. Girls giggling and flirting with boys, guys trying to pick up chicks, families with their children, old couples going for a stroll, big black women shouting and making a scene, couples walking hand in hand, etc. Lots of cute girls, but again, none that really stood out. I went to take a bite of my burger when something caught my eye. Could it be true or were my eyes fooling me? The girl from the car before, she was on the boardwalk! She was with another girl, probably the one who was driving. They were walking towards the rides. They didn't seem to be like the other girls. They weren't trying to pick up guys or they weren't giggling and making a fool of themselves or making fun of others; they were just enjoying each other and focusing on themselves. I had to go grab her now that I had the chance. "Be right back, boys" I said as I got up from my seat and jogged over towards the boardwalk. I ran up to no-named girl and tapped her shoulder, she turned around and it looked like her eyes lit up with surprise and happiness.
"Hello, stranger." She smiled and blushed. "Hello... you." She looked at her friend and told her to go buy them wristbands for the rides while she stayed and talked to me. "Do I actually know you?" she asked. "I don't think so, but I saw you driving today, and knew I had to know you. What a coincidence that you're here, too." She flipped her hair out of her face and replied. "Yeah, weird. So, what's your name anyway?" I was so happy she was actually talking to me. Just by looking at this girl I knew she was out of my league. "I'm Ryan, and yourself?" "I'm Kelly. I--" She was cut off my obnoxious friends running up behind me and screaming things like, "Who's this!?" "Does Ryan have a girlfriend!?" "Ryan and girlie sitting in a tree..." things like that. "Shut up, guys,"I demanded, "This is Kelly. We just met." "Hey, Kelly, nice to meet you." "You too." She was so nice, even to my annoying friends. I decided to introduce them. "Kelly, this is Mike and this is John. We're here for the weekend, we were just eating." Before Kelly could reply, John said, "Well we're done eating now, buddy. We want to hit up the rides." Kelly's friend then returned and Kelly introduced her. "John, Mike, Ryan, this is my friend Peggy. We were just about to go on rides, too, if you'd like to join us." "Nice to meet you, Peggy," I said politely, "Yeah, I'd love to, what about you boys?" my friends agreed to go along with the girls, but all I really wanted to do was get alone with Kelly. All five of us walked together until we got to the rides, then I guess Peggy knew that we wanted to be alone so she took my two friends to another ride. Kelly and I then went on the Ferris Wheel. "So, where do you live Kelly?" "I live in Jefferson, and you?" "I'm a Sparta boy. But not for long." "What do you mean?" "Well, I'm leaving for college in August, I'm going to Boston University." Kelly just laughed, really hard, and I didn't know why. "What is it?" I kept asking her but she just kept laughing, and every time I'd ask she'd just laugh harder. Finally she calmed down enough to answer. "I'm starting to think you're some super stalked, Ryan." "What, why!?" I was kind of offended, and I didn't know why she was saying that. She giggled, then said, "Because I'm going to Boston U in the fall as well. Seems like we have more in common than we ever would have thought." After she said that, I felt like all the pieces of my life had fallen into place. We went on the Ferris Wheel about five times, just asking each other questions and figuring each other out.
Eventually we left and met up with our friends. It was getting late and they were closing down the rides for the night, so we began to say goodnight and go our separate ways for the day. I pulled Kelly to the side to say goodnight. "It was really nice meeting you, Ryan. You're unlike anyone I've ever met, and I'd like to get to know you even more. How about we meet up tomorrow, too?" I was so happy that she seemed to be just as interested in me as I was in her. I of course accepted. "Of course, Kelly. I'd love to. Just us, though. I'll send my boys off so I can be with you only." She winked at me and went to walk over to Peggy, but my instincts stepped in and grabbed her arm. I pulled her in and placed a kiss on her lips. She blushed more than ever before and ran over to Peggy. They walked the opposite way than us, and John and Mike goofed around with me the rest of the walk back to the hotel. "Ryan and Kelly sitting in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-G..." They're so annoying sometimes.

Kelly and I ended up spending the rest of the summer together. We also began dating. We also left for college together, same dorm building and everything! We're actually leaving tonight for college! I can't wait for the next four years. Everything I wanted; a summer fling, a girlfriend at college, and someone who liked me for me and someone I could commit to, I got. Kelly's amazing, and I really think I am falling in love with her. I think I'll tell her tonight! Who would've thought a short trip to McDonald's could've gotten me way more than just a small fries and iced coffee...
