Nameless
She exuded some kind of confidence as she walked down the hall. Everyday was a new, stylish outfit. She made so many variations out of the little clothes she owned. She carried a purse, some books, and a smile that was impossible to remove from her face. I would always pass her and she never even knew I was alive, once as she passed I dug up the courage to say hello.
"Hey, Jess"
She looked at me for a second with shock, as if she didn't know why I said hello to her. Nonetheless, she responded.
"Hey, Sam!" She popped a smile after that and continued to walk. I couldn't believe it! She knew my name! She was two years older than me, never having talked to me before, and she knew my name! My day was instantly brightened.
After school I had musical rehearsal, I walked into the cafeteria and sat at a table with some of my friends. A bunch of the older kids walked in and I looked around to see if Jess was one of them, she wasn't. I turned back to my friends at the table and decided to brag,
"Today I said hello to Jess in the hall and she said hey back and knew my name!"
My friends accused me of lying, they said I was pulling a joke on them! I was mad that they wouldn't believe me, but turned and admired the older kids until the rehearsal started. Five minutes before it did, Jess walked in with coffees and doughnuts; so much she could barely hold them. Everyone seemed happy to see her, how could they not? She lit up the room. She was perfect. She handed out some coffees to her friends and I turned back to mine. Suddenly, I felt someone come up behind me. It was her with a box of munchkins.
"Hey guys, want some doughnuts?"
Everyone took some, including me. I was so happy she came over by me. I decided to say something to make my friends believe she knew my name.
"Thanks, Jess. That's really sweet of you."
She looked at me and smiled, "No problem, Sam, you guys want anymore just come and ask!" She smiled again and walked back to her friends. I looked at my friends and all of their jaws were dropped. I gave them a smirk, picked up my backpack, and went to the auditorium.
I didn't have a big part, so I got to sit and watch most of the rehearsal. Jess obviously had the lead role. Well, one of them. She was amazing. When she got on stage she owned the audience, every eye in the room was on her. Especially mine.
I wanted to be her friend--no, I wanted to be her so badly. She was perfect in every aspect. When she was done rehearsing for a while, I just read. I felt someone come sit down next to me and when I looked up, it was her. I almost fell out of my seat.
"Hey, you need a ride home? I know you live near me and I don't wanna be alone again today, so if you want I can take you."
I was in awe. I didn't know what to say, I said yes of course, and she went back to rehearsal. I called my mom and told her and got ready. Soon enough we were on our way out to her car. She had the coolest car. Obviously.
We talked the whole way home, she told me stories about her amazing life. I didn't really have much to talk about, I was only a freshman.
I got out of the car, thanked her, and watched her drive away, and knew one day they there would be someone to envy me like I did for her. She was just exuberant.
